Evan’s support for his favorite college team
Well if you have read the comment from Aunt Jane you would see that some of us in this house are University of Kentucky fans. His Greatest Aunt Jane and Greatest Uncle Terry have sent Evan some really cute UK things. He has a really cute sweater that he will wear soon, a onesie that he will wear when he is a little older, a bib that he already wears, and a mascot mobile as you can see from the picture. We (Aunt Jane and mommy) are teaching him to love the Cats already.

Everyone has been asking us how Roscoe gets along with Evan so we wanted to let everyone know. Roscoe immediately was very protective. If someone new comes over and holds Evan, he is right there to check on him. If Evan starts crying and Eric and I aren’t fast enough for him, he comes running into wherever we are and looks at us like aren’t you going to do something. He will go in Evan’s room and try to look at him in his bed to make sure he is alright. It is very cute and we knew that he would do wonderfully with him and he has.

On February 19th Evan had his first bath. Now I know this seems like a long time to wait but we had to wait for his umbilical cord to fall off. He didn’t seem to mind it too much but wasn’t completely comfortable with it. Roscoe was right there to make sure he was okay and that it was done right I guess. I think Evan is pretty much okay with anything. He is a pretty content baby which we are very happy with.

Evan said this bath stuff is pretty cold sometimes, he was ready to have his first bath offer with and dry with some warm clothes on.

No Mom is not choking the little guy, though it might look like this, she is just fully supporting little Evan’s slippery wet head.

Where there is the first bath time with Evan there the dog Roscoe follows!

Evan’s one month appointment
Evan just had his one month doctor’s appointment. He is now 9 lbs. 9.5 oz. I know that that does not seem like much since he was 9 lbs. 0.5 oz when he was born but he lost a lot of weight due to not getting enough when breastfeeding. We are now bottle feeding and he is gaining weight wonderfully. He is now 21 inches long which is less than when he was born but he had a lot of molding. He had to have one shot and he did not like it much at all. He was laying there pretty happy and content and then the nurse gave him the shot and you could tell it scared him because his eyes got great big and his little arms starting shaking and then he started screaming. The doctor said he looks great and everything is good. We were very glad to hear that. We just hope he gets longer because with his Daddy’s height we don’t want him to be short. However, if he is we will love him just the same.

You’ve probably heard that “tummy time” is important so that babies can learn to push up and eventually crawl. While, it can be somewhat hard to see your baby flat on the floor and what almost looks like he is just doing a face plant. Some doctors suggest to use a pillow or a boppy which we choose to use.

Here is a Picture of Evan’s first tummy time. He seems to really enjoy it, and as you can see he is already of doing a good job of working out those muscles.
We have found that Evan enjoys some toys and just looking around from the new perceptive that tummy time has given him.

Baby Poems - God’s Most Precious Gift
A baby was created
by the hand of God above
To give the world the sweetest touch.
of tenderness and love.
With the softness of a whisper,
God mad a baby’s skin
And then designed two trusting eyes
to put the starlight in.
Go made the world a precious gift
more dear and pure than gold,
With little toes to play with
and tiny hands to hold,
Then brought into the sunshine
a baby girl or boy
All wrapped up in a rainbow
of wonder, hope, and joy.

Eric was told several times from a wise lady, “You know kids these days don’t come with any instructional manuals.” And isn’t that the truth. But, We feel as after going on close to Evan Pangburn being almost a month old we are finally getting a good grasp on “how to breastfeed”. Though there for while it was a struggle for us, but I think we finally got it right.
Here is a little “how to breastfeed” illustration to help others…
A simple step by step guide to breastfeeding your baby. From starting a feeding, to getting a good latch and finishing your feeding…

Here was a pretty funny email written by a teacher that Tara works with.
From: Elizabeth

Subject: Evan Riley Pangburn
Hi World,
Evan Riley Pangburn here future football or basketball player here, I have not decided which yet. I made my grand entrance at 7:41pm I wanted to be just fashionably late. Mom is a little tired I left a scar on the way into the world. Mom is doing fine she said that I am forgiven. I will never have to worry about how much Hair Club for Men cost or Rogaine. All the girls in the nursery are after me because I am the biggest boy at 9 pounds and a half ounce that half is a lot in the nursery. This bed I am in is a little short my legs keep going over the side. I heard a nurse say they need to get the big boy bed for the 231/4 inches baby, I think that is me. Mom and Dad say thank you for all your support and prays. I will be seeing you soon. You can check out my website at Evan Pangburn

Jaundice is best tested through blood work. A good inductor that jaundice is serious is when:
* bilirubin levels greater than 18 milligrams per deciliter of blood in term babies
* When the babies bilirubin increases more than five milligrams per deciliter per day the baby has an elevation in there direct bilirubin
* When bilirubin continues to increase over time and never breaks and starts coming down
Good Sign that Jaundice Is Okay Or Average For Babies
The best way for babies to break down bilirubin is passing it through stools. So sooner the baby can start feeding especially breastfeeding the better and the sooner your baby can start passing bilirubin through stool. As long as your baby continues to produce wet and soiled diaper the bilirubin should normally drop and come down to a normal level within a week or two.
